This gentle soul is at the vet recovering from an emergency surgery that saved his life.
Chaco, a 7-year-old stray brought into a local impound, arrived in rescue just days ago, quietly suffering from what turned out to be a massive buildup of bladder and urethral stones. His foster noticed blood in his urine, and when symptoms worsened, we rushed him in. What the vet found was heartbreaking.
His bladder was in rough shape from months, maybe years, of untreated pain. The vet had to make three separate incisions to remove the stones, which were so unusual they’ve been sent for analysis. She described the surgery as long, difficult, and urgent.
Without it, Chaco wouldn’t have survived.
He’s now resting with a catheter and long-acting pain meds. He’s not out of the woods yet, but we’re hopeful that if all goes well, he’ll be able to go home on Monday.
His surgery cost $3,500, plus another $1,200 in emergency care, and his stay through the weekend will only add to that total. These were life-saving procedures; there was simply no other option.
Chaco has clearly known neglect. His ears were badly cropped, his skin infected, and yet he’s still the gentlest, most trusting soul. We couldn’t turn our backs on him—and now we’re asking you not to, either.
Please donate if you can. Every dollar helps us give Chaco the second chance he so deeply deserves.
