Humane World for Animals

Six dogs. Six second chances.
Thanks to our friends at Humane World for Animals, six dogs are now on their way to Minnesota and to brighter futures with Ruff Start Rescue. Our incredible volunteers have just loaded them into our van, and they will arrive at our office tomorrow.
Most of these dogs came from deeply difficult situations:
Wally is one of 23 dogs rescued from a suspected dogfighting operation in South Carolina, where they were found living outside on heavy chains with only a rudimentary shelter for protection. Many of the dogs seized bore the physical scars of their past, but also the emotional strength to move forward. Despite everything, they greeted rescuers with hopeful eyes, eager for attention.
Amberly is one of 67 dogs rescued from a dog meat farm in Cheongju, South Korea, as the country begins phasing out the dog meat industry ahead of its official ban in 2027. For years, she lived in a barren metal cage, deprived of proper nutrition, comfort, and care. The farm where she was kept was shut down for cruelty violations, and thanks to Humane World for Animals, Amberly was flown to the U.S. to begin a new chapter.
Patches came from a prison-based training program in Louisiana, where rescued street dogs are paired with approved inmates to learn basic manners and build trust with people. These programs are often a lifeline for dogs who might otherwise be out of options. Patches did everything right, but as a senior dog, he was repeatedly overlooked by adopters and eventually returned to Humane World for Animals.
Boss, Grace, and Piper were part of a larger group of neglected Labrador Retrievers seized from poor conditions on the East Coast. While we can’t share many details, we can say they were living without the care or compassion every dog deserves. They received the medical treatment they needed, and soon, the love they’ve never known.
We’re so grateful to Humane World for Animals for trusting us with their care, and to our volunteer drivers who are making the long trip to Indiana and back to bring these dogs to safety.
They don’t know it yet, but the best part of their story is just beginning. ❤️
