Nourishing Oakley’s New Beginning

Oakley has made it to Ruff Start, but her journey is only beginning. 💙

This sweet girl is estimated to be just 10 months to 1 year old, and when she arrived at a local impound, she weighed only 19 pounds. She was extremely emaciated, but somehow, she was still overflowing with happiness. Her tail never stopped wagging, and she was so excited to see people that she developed a “happy tail” from repeatedly hitting it against her kennel.

Thankfully, Oakley now has a committed foster who has stepped up to help her heal. She is on a carefully managed refeeding plan, eating multiple small meals a day while her body slowly rebuilds.

Oakley has a long road ahead. She’ll need ongoing veterinary care, time to safely gain weight and strength, and eventually, when she is healthy enough, the routine care she still needs, including her spay.

But she has something incredibly important already: a safe place to heal and people who are committed to her.

Oakley should have had the chance to be a puppy all along. Now we get to help her discover what that feels like.
