My commitment to Ruff Start Rescue stems from my personal experiences with two remarkable companions who shaped my understanding of love. Booberry, my beloved Pomeranian who departed last year a day after his twelfth birthday, demonstrated extraordinary resilience despite battling hypothyroidism and heart complications. Though small in stature, his indomitable spirit and charismatic personality left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Through his journey, he taught me gratitude, sacrifice, and unconditional love. He was beyond a pet, he was my family. My second inspiration is Cezar, a Czech Shepherd whose transition from dedicated K9 service to retirement exemplifies the remarkable adaptability of these intelligent beings. His evolution from a highly trained working dog—skilled in narcotics detection, fugitive apprehension, and tactical operations—to a cherished family companion highlights the multifaceted nature of working dogs. I often forget how talented he is as most of his time now involves searching and retrieving food in the kitchen, finding things he's not supposed to have and attacking mama's shoes... Stinker! My personal transformation through running, which began in 2020 with a modest 5K challenge, parallels the journey of the animals we seek to help—one of persistence, gradual progress, and unwavering determination. As I prepare to tackle the half marathon this October, I've chosen to align this personal milestone with a greater purpose: advocating for animals in crisis. My fundraising goal of $500 represents more than just a target; it symbolizes hope for countless animals facing neglect, abandonment, and adversity.
